I Cannot wait to see what comments appear at longer and longer hours. I'm sure the Anet staff doesn't like putting these anymore than we do so maybe they get funnier as you go.

to paraphrase a smart comedian, I'm not saying we need to go around killing idots, I'm just saying remove warning labels and let the problem take care of itself.
Dennis Miller or George Carlin?

hehehe. it's nice that they'd put this into the game. Lineage II has a message that says "You have been playing for a prolonged amount of time. Please consider taking a break." i found that in my chat window when i minimized the game to do some work. pretty amusing.

I saw that on a CAD comic for WoW. It was hilarious.

Since im not doing anything at all the whole day, i'll get a 10 hour message and post it, and maybe even 15.

I'll just have guild wars minimized on my computer, and leave it on 24/7 for a month...

All of them after 3 hours have been "Please take a break" from what I've seen in screnshots :\

Not as creative as you'd hoped.

I have never forgotten that I also have a 6 month old son and that he needs food on a regular basis. If I were so stupid as to go to an internet cafe (or anywhere) and leave him home for an extended period of time, I would expect to be jailed regardless of how long I was gone.

I HATE it when people leave their kids alone and think it is ok and that the kid will be just fine. This goes double when people leave their kids in the car at the store. GRRRRRRR!! I WILL call the cops when I see that happen.
While I accept and understand your opinion on that one, it really depends on the situation.

I hate leaving the kids alone, but.. there are times where it is necessary. Those times are usually emergency related (medication/emergency) and you're way too tired to think straight plus.. they have school the next day and you don't want to interupt their sleep. For a 5 min drive to the local pharmacy, that's not a problem.. but.. for an extended stay 11pm - 4am at the hospital.. I'm suprised that the people there couldn't give me some type of idea on how long we'd be there AFTER I told them I had an 8yr old at home without ANYONE around...

That said, I will leave my son at home when going shopping during the day, he HAS my contact number, he HAS the contact number for his grandparents, and... he has gw and movies to keep himself entertained.

Would I leave both kids at home? Not for anything more than 10 mins... risk of those two fighting is just too great.

Would I have randomly left the kids before they were 7? Not likely.

Oh yeah.. The warning message.. that'll be interesting next time I attempt to clear out UW, a trip which takes about 5 hours + time to get a group together...

Agreed, when the family of 'obssessive dead gamer x' decide to sue Anet, they can simply point out they gave the gamer plenty of warning.

I think the 'Please take a break' part of the message is a bit insulting. You have to be at least 13 to play this game. By the time you are 13, you know that when you are hungry, you should find something to eat. You know when you have to pee, you had better get up and walk to the nearest bathroom. You know if you don't go to sleep when you're tired you'll pay for it later when you're nodding off in the middle of something you're supposed to be doing.

Being told to take a break every hour after a measly three hours is stupid. Kindergardeners need to be told when to eat and sleep and play. Teenagers and adults do not.

I am 25. I have two jobs, so whenever I get to play GW it's the weekend and I usually play for 8-10 continuous hours. I want to play my favorite game, and I have all day to do so, and I should be able to play for 10 hours straight without someone nagging me every hour to 'please take a break'. I don't particularly mind getting a message every hour telling me how long I've been playing, that's actually kind of cool. What I don't like is being treated like a kindergardener who needs his nappy-wappy-time.

Please, for the love of god, let us turn off the timer notifications and get rid of the suggestions to take a break. It's annoying.

EDIT: As for people who are old enough to know better and do not eat when hungry or drink when thirsty or pee when bladder explosion is impending; people who ignore the pain of malnourishment or impending organ failure are doing so because they suffer from a compulsive disorder. Telling them how long they have been playing every hour and suggesting they take a break isn't going to make them realize they better find some food before they die. Even disconnecting them after a certain period of time would just cause them to sign right back in every time and play until they keel over. If they prevent the addict's account from reconnecting for a certain amount of time, they mostly likely have multiple accounts to sign in with anyway so that won't do a whole lot of good. So, thanks to our lawsuit-crazy country we all get to be annoyed every hour now. /yay

QFT

It's probably to appease the asian governments...where there are actually laws limiting the constant play of video games.

But I agree...I really want to see some sort of ingame clock now

This is the 2nd of NCsoft's decision

To list it all down:
1) Factions as a "stand-alone" expansion.
1.1) Merge accounts - 6 slots. Separate = 4 slots each. First introduced by NCsoft with City of Villains - a stand-alone expansion of City of Heroes.
2) "Consider Taking a Break" message which was first introduced in Lineage 2.

We may soon see an integrated MSN Messenger in Guild Wars. Which was first introduced in Lineage 2 Chronicle 4. ^_^

MSN Messenger is the dominant IM in Korea. Almost all Korean developers are using MSN Messenger. And they're fun to talk with But they won't believe you if you discovered an exploit or hack

Additionally, I think this is related to Korean and China laws (as well as Thailand laws) limiting gamers gaming time for online games. Those are the only countries reported to have such laws. Morever, it's only China and Korea with reported "gaming deaths" because of prolonged gaming time which is totally weird considering countless of people can play 24/7 for more than 2 weeks!! My personal record is 2 weeks. Without eating, drinking and napping, my personal record is 5 days, and I was only 18 years old when I did that. China and Korean media and police are just trying to destroy the image of online gaming, nothing else.

It's one of those anti obsession things. Ever since people started dieing at their desks from malnutrition, lack of sleep and general filthiness lots of game companies have been instituting anti obsession stuff into their code. Remember that chick in China that sat at the internet cafe for three days without sleep and died playing WoW? Yeah.
